Is There a Place For Me?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of FOCUS Baptist Church of College Point is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation.

FOCUS Baptist is not a place for spectators. It is a place for team members. Whether you are a five-year old child, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessman with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at FOCUS.

Corporate Worship Services

Come this Sunday at 4:00 pm for Bible Classes for every age. Stay around after our small fellowship time and worship with us every Sunday at 5:00 pm at the little white church in College Point, NY (119 St. & 14 Ave.) and come every Wednesday at 7:00 pm for Bible study & prayer. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!!

It is our desire that the people would commit their lives to worshiping God and bringing glory to His name. One way that we hope to encourage a lifestyle of worship is through weekly worship services. In those services we hope to reflect our love for God in several ways:

Worshiping God through music

We believe that music is an important way for us to show our love and honor for God. We also want to use music as means of committing our hearts and lives to loving and serving Him. We hope that as we come together to worship God through music we will glorify Him and strengthen His church.

Worshiping God through the preaching of the Word

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and that it applies to every part of our lives. For this reason preaching the Scriptures takes a central role in our weekly worship gatherings. We hope to help people understand what the Bible says and help them apply it to their lives so that they can better honor Him with their lives.

Worshiping God through relationships

Another important part of meeting together on a weekly basis is to spend time with other believers. We all come from different walks of life, but we have something very important in common: our relationship with Jesus Christ. God’s plan is that the church would live as a family, and it is important for the family to spend time together. We hope that our church will be a place where we can “do life together” in a real and authentic way.

Worshiping God through giving

We believe that giving is an important part of our worship. God desires for us to be people who are willing and eager to give what we have to Him and others. We hope that our church body has the desire to give of their time, talents and finances as a means of worshiping God. Giving is not about the amount. It’s about having a heart that desires to honor God with what He has given to us.

The work of the Lord, according to John 17 has three components:

  • Win: the proclamation of the gospel to a lost person that results in their salvation.
  • Build: the process of building the word of God into a discple’s life that results in their spiritual maturity.
  • Send: the preparation of a discipler that results in their being sent out into the world for the purpose of reproducing themselves.

When a person accepts Jesus as their personal Savior, they enter into a new and exciting life with God. This decision to accept Christ is only the beginning of a relationship that God intended to be daily, personal, and everlasting. However, walking with God in a daily, personal relationship does not come naturally to any of us.  It is something we have to learn.

Jesus Christ is our ultimate example, in that he spent the entire three and a half years of his earthly ministry teaching twelve men how to have a relationship with God, and to pass it on to others.  For those three and a half years, our Lord’s work was investing his life, and God’s word into these twelve men that he called disciples.

We are carrying on this work by continuing the ministry of discipleship that Jesus started and passed on to his apostles. Our goal is to teach people, one on one, to walk with God through discipleship; then train these same believers to turn around and invest their lives and God’s Word, one on one, in someone else who needs to be grounded in the faith, and taught to walk with God.

Discipleship is the very foundation for all ministry. Everyone fits into this ministry at some level, either as an unbeliever who needs to take the first step and be saved, or a baby believer who needs to be taught, or a mature believer who is able to disciple others.  If you are interested, please contact Pastor Adam at

FOCUS is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We are active in sending missionaries and supporting these missionaries with our money and with our prayers. The four missionaries supported by FOCUS are located in Greenland (Shull Family), Macedonia (Feta Family), Paraguay (Brietz), and the Director of BIBM (Mullendore Family). We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community.

One way we hope to reach out to our community is by finding tangible ways to show the love of God to them. We want to be known as a church that

loves God, loves people, and seeks to serve them both.

We want to be active in helping to meet the needs of our community. We want the people of our community to view us as a church that they can turn to for help.
We know that the most important way that we can show the love of God to our neighbors is by helping them understand their need for Him. As we look for creative ways to meet people’s physical needs we will also be looking for opportunities to make them aware of their spiritual needs. Real life change happens in the heart. Change in the heart can only come through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

While we will work hard to reach out to our community as a church body, we also know that each person has a responsibility of sharing Christ with the people in their lives. As we live and work alongside the people of our community we hope to find creative ways to share the Gospel of Jesus with them.

God has called us to share His message of salvation with others and that is exactly what we hope to accomplish through our outreach ministries.

Biblical Counseling

We all know that life can be hard. Everyone has times when they need some help. We are thankful that God, in His grace, has given us the Scriptures to help us in those difficult times. We believe that God’s Word is up to the challenge of helping us handle life’s difficulties (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We also believe that God intends for us to encourage and help one another. God has given us the responsibility of helping one another grow to be His kind of people (Galatians 6:1-2).

Many people think of counseling with negative connotations.  People think counseling is for those who are emotionally unstable or who can’t help themselves. This is not the picture that the Scriptures paint. Counseling is something we experience all the time. We receive counsel from all kinds of people and places. We receive counsel from friends, TV shows, music, books, sermons, etc. The point is we all receive counsel or advice on how we should live life. The question is, who are we listening to? We encourage people to use God’s Word to find the answers to life. This is where our biblical counseling ministry comes in.

Biblical Counseling is more than “advice giving”. It seeks to apply the Scriptures to everyday living. By doing this we hope to help others (and ourselves) live in a way that pleases God.
